Chris Barwell’s career in editing and post-production was initially focused on corporate and commercial film work. During this period he began to develop his skills as a drama editor; editing many award winning short films which garnered, BAFTAs, RTS awards, Cannes selection, and other honours around the world.
His first feature film was Duane Hopkins ‘Better Things’ which premiered at Cannes Critics Week 2008. This was soon followed by ’Under The Shadow’ which won numerous BIFA Awards and a best debut BAFTA for it’s director Babak Anvari. Their next film collaboration ‘Wounds’ was for Annapurna pictures in LA. It featured in the official selection of both Sundance and Cannes film festivals in 2019.
Television projects completed in the same period also achieved award winning status, such as EMMY and Golden Globe winner ‘The Crown,’ EMMY and BAFTA winner ‘Black Mirror’‚ and RTS winner ‘Peaky Blinders’. Otto Bathurst directed these last two productions. Chris and Otto also collaborated together for Lionsgate’s epic action feature film ‘Robin Hood’ in 2018.
His professional involvement with productions goes beyond the edit suite. He supports show-runners, directors, and producers throughout all creative aspects of post-production: visual effects, sound design, sound mixing, music, grading, and editing all receive his creative input. These wider skills enable him to operate within post-production as both a supervising editor and co-producer.
His membership of the Editors Guild in Hollywood also allows him to work on both sides of the Atlantic. Chris has spent the last 5 years working as both Co-Producer and Editor on Amazon’s hallmark fantasy adventure series Wheel of Time. His highly creative approach, combined with a strong work ethic, and close attention to detail, continues to benefit film and television productions around the world.
